Our approach
How we assess teaching competencies
A structured framework, five levels of practice and questions grounded in everyday classrooms. The result is a picture you can act on, not a mark to worry about.
The framework
A framework of teaching competencies
The framework covers the many things good teaching involves: from probing and structuring a class, to explaining, evaluating, listening and building relationships. Each competency is described in five levels so that growth has clear steps.
Five levels
From Basic to Outstanding
This is how the framework describes Probing, the art of inquiring closely, at each level.
- Level 1BasicAsks question to the student whenever there is noise in the class in order to bring the class to the attention.
- Level 2AverageAsks the open ended and closed ended questioning system in the middle of the class
- Level 3Above AverageFrames the questions in advance and applies the questions at an appropriate time
- Level 4GoodFrames the questions for all frequently asked doubts and clarify doubts through "Reflection" technique with the help of probing tool.
- Level 5OutstandingFrames the questions on real time applications and clarify the doubts thru "reflection" technique with the help of probing tool

Principles
What makes the assessment fair and useful
Real situations, real choices
Each question describes a classroom situation. The five responses are all things a real teacher might do, so the best one is a matter of judgement, not recall.
Each response is a level
Every response reflects one of the five levels of practice. Your choices across a competency show where your practice sits today.
Experience shapes the questions, not the result
Your years in teaching decide the mix of questions you see. Your result comes only from your responses.
Every competency is covered
Questions are drawn so that every competency in your package is assessed, with a fresh, balanced set for each teacher.
Fair comparisons only
Percentiles appear only when enough teachers have taken a comparable assessment, and only eligible attempts count towards them.
Your results stay yours
Results are kept as they were on the day you took the assessment, and later framework changes never alter them.
What your report shows
Results are presented as a development opportunity. Every report includes:
- Your level in each competency assessed
- An overall assessment grade
- Your strengths and growth areas
- A percentile, when enough comparable results exist
- A downloadable report and certificate
